Victoria Daly Regional Council (VDRC) received the funding from the Northern Territory’s Community Benefit Fund, with the money going towards replacing a damaged shade sail structure and playground equipment beyond repair.
With the playground situated in between two central meeting places in the town, revamping this facility creates a safe space for children to play and for families and community members to come together.
VDRC Mayor, Brian Pedwell, said that investing in facilities that encouraged physical, social and cognitive development was a key pillar of the council’s values.
“It’s important for the cohesion of our communities, that our play and recreation spaces are inviting and safe for everyone to use,” Pedwell said.
“We believe these refurbishments are a smart investment for the liveability of the town.”
A welcoming stop for travellers
And with thousands of tourists flocking to the Northern Territory every year to explore its impressive National Parks, the playground will also include two aluminium picnic tables giving somewhere for local families and travellers to rest and prepare on the run meals while children are occupied on the equipment.
Building of the new playground is set to commence in June 2022 and be completed by December 2022.
