About the Position

The Timber Creek Police Museum is on the hunt for a full-time caretaker, based in Timber Creek. Ideal for a single or couple travelling across the country and keen to put roots down (even just for a little while) to learn about a truly unique part of remote Australia.

While the position is unpaid, a space to park a caravan or camper trailer for free is available on site.

Nestled among the stunning escarpment ranges of Gregory National Park, the museum was first established in 1809, and is home to an impressive collection of police and local artefacts illustrating the rich and complicated history of the area.

Qualifications and experience:

  • Friendly and welcoming to new people.
  • Broad knowledge of Australian and/or Northern Territory history.
  • A can-do and enthusiastic attitude.
  • Management or customer service experience looked upon favourably, but not essential.

Tasks and duties:

  • Manning and welcoming guests into the museum from 9:30am-5pm, Monday to Friday
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and of the museum and surrounding property
  • Talking to and guiding visitors around the museum


  • A space to park a camper or caravan on site, free of charge
  • Free access to a separate kitchen and bathroom
  • Free use of two newly installed water tanks
  • Just minutes away from Timber Creek town centre
  • Close to local attractions such as Gregory National Park, Victoria River and Lake Argyle
  • A variety of tasks enjoyed that can evolve with experience.
