Pine Creek Primary School students have been recognised for their participation in this year’s National Simultaneous Storytime, receiving their awards during a special assembly on Tuesday.
Last Wednesday, the school students took part in the National Simultaneous Storytime (NSS), an event that sees students, teachers, and book lovers from across the world read the same book at the same time.
Accompanied by Principal Janet Purje, the kids filled out the Pine Creek Community Library to hear Victoria Daly Regional Council Library Officer, Kathryn Wynne, read this year’s book, Family Tree.
Written by Australian musician Josh Pyke, and beautifully illustrated by Ronojoy Ghosh, the book is a heartfelt celebration of family, community, and seasons of life to cherish and to share.
“It started with a seed, and that seed was me. And, over time laughter filled my garden…” – Family Tree
Now in its 22nd year, NSS fosters a sense of community and excitement around reading –with 1.98 million taking part in the event at 33,000 locations last year.
The students were also provided with their very own Family Tree to complete.
Kathryn said the kids loved the event and were very proud to receive their attendance certificates.
“I really hope this inspires our kids to pick up a book and start reading,” she said.
