Councillor Yvette Williams has been appointed as Deputy Mayor for a one-year term.
All elected members of the Council were re-elected at the recent Northern Territory Local Government Election and were sworn-in today by the Hon Steven Edgington MLA, Minister for Housing, Local Government and Community Development.
Mayor Pedwell, Deputy Mayor Williams, Councillor Andrew McTaggart, Councillor Deborah Jones and Councillor Georgina Macleod all made their declarations of office before Minister Edgington.
VDRC thanks Minister Edgington for making time in his busy schedule to conduct the swearing-in ceremony.
Mayor Brian Pedwell reiterated the Council’s focus on delivering VDRC’s 2025-26 Regional Plan and working closely with local authorities to reflect community priorities in the Council’s work.
He expressed gratitude to staff for their commitment, and looks forward to continuing to move forward, together to implement the Council’s priorities.
“I am very grateful for the support of my fellow Councillors to be able to continue to serve our community as Mayor for another term,” Mayor Pedwell said.
“I will continue to advocate passionately at all levels of government to create a bright and sustainable future for the Vic Daly region.”
VDRC Chief Executive Officer, Jennifer Marston welcomed the re-election of all Councillors and the re-appointment of Mayor Pedwell and Deputy Mayor Williams.
“As members of the previous Council, our Councillors are uniquely positioned to support our priorities, understand our challenges and recognise our opportunities,” Ms Marston said.
“That is not to say there’s not an opportunity for reflection, review and reprioritisation if required, but the key drive to strengthen our region through fostering development, growth and social wellbeing remains.
“The Councillors are trusted representatives of their communities and have the community’s confidence in their ability to listen to and reflect its aspirations.”
The Council will continue its work to ensure proactive and accountable leadership, financial sustainability, growth of people, regional lifestyle support, and asset and system improvement.
